Dear OSCP Members,

It is with regret that I post this notice of Mr. Michael Martin’s death. Many of us have had the pleasure to know Mike in different stages of his life and perfusion career. I know that he will be greatly missed not only by his family but also by his colleagues at Hamilton General Hospital. His brother’s comments are listed below. A contribution will be sent on the behalf of the OSCP membership to the Jurvinski Cancer Center.

Notice from Dr. Steven Martin (Michael’s Brother):
It is with sadness that I notify the OSCP of the death of an active member and my brother. Michael John Martin (DOB Nov 1 1962) died peacefully at age 47 yrs in the Palliative Care unit of St. Peters Hospital in Hamilton, Ont on Aug 17,
2010 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Michael graduated from the Michener Institute Respiratory Therapist programme in 1991 and worked full-time then part-time at the Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington up until Sept 2009 shortly after his diagnosis. Additionally, Michael graduated with Honours from The Michener Institute`s perfusion programme with the class of `97 and worked briefly in the University of Saskatchewan before taking a staff position at Toronto General and finally at The Hamilton General Hospital with the Cardiac Surgery team until his diagnosis in Sept 2009. A Celebration of Michael's life will be held on Sept 11, 2010 at Bay Gardens Cremation Funeral & Memorial Centre (905- 527-0405), 1010 Botanical Dr, Hamilton at 2pm with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Jurvinski Cancer Centre. http://www.jcc.hhsc.ca/

I would like to know what it happening between the OSCP and the Michener Institue. Are there any on-going talks or program discussions happening? Is this process being left for the CSCP to deal with? Is there an OSCP liason to the Michener Institue? If so, could he or she make some comments about what is happing on this site and/or in the CSCP Journal?

On another topic does anyone have the Delegated Acts Policy for their hospital in Ontario? If so, would you be willing to share?

Great job on the site Andy. I hope that more and more people begin to use this as a communication tool for the OSCP.
